Negotiation skills are a key skill to have especially when it comes to compensation. In this workshop, Candice Klein MBA'97, and Laura Balson (JD, Northwestern University)  presented their tips for successful salary negotiations within a variety of settings such as moving up the corporate ladder, working for start-ups and industry-specific strategies, such as women in finance. UCWBG holds its monthly board meeting the second Saturday each month at Gleacher Center from 9am to Noon. Serving on the board gives members the opportunity to develop new skills in not-for-profit governance and network with highly accomplished women from diverse backgrounds. UCWBG is the first group at the Chicago Booth and the most innovative. We created the first roundtables and career development events and organize events ranging from intimate lunches to full day programs. We are looking for members to join our 2015 board. The YWCA Leader Luncheon honors individuals for outstanding achievement in their chosen career fields and one leader for a commitment to racial justice. The YWCA Leader Luncheon is one of Chicago’s most prestigious salutes to exceptional leaders. When YWCA Metropolitan Chicago launched Leader Luncheon in 1972, honoring women for their career achievements was a bold, pioneering concept. The UCWBG and the YWCA share a common mission of empowering women and several members have expressed a desire to make connections within the non-profit community. Past UCWBG Board Member, Susan Kane, is making it easier for UCWBG members to attend this premier event and will contribute half the $300 ticket price for up to 10 UCWBG members. Sat, Feb 8, 2014  "Rasheeda Speaking": Rivendell Theatre Ensemble, 4:00 - 6:30 pm

UCWBG members and friends made an outing to see "Rasheeda Speaking" at the Rivendell Theatre Ensemble. The play is a dark comedy about the changes in relationships in a workplace when one person is asked to spy on another. A discussion of the issues, sources and themes was held in the theater after the performance. Robin Simon, docent for the Chicago Architecture Foundation and UCWBG member, led a tour exploring the early Collegiate Gothic roots of the university campus in the original quadrangles, the “march of mid-century modernism” along the Midway and the recent, breath-taking architectural additions such as the Mansueto Library and the Midway Crossings. On a Saturday morning at the Art Institute, Khloe Karova, '06,UCWBG President-Elect, lead a tour of major art movements through the lens of aesthetics and economic context. The tour started with Dutch still lives and the birth of modern financial instruments and then to Neo-Classicism and the Napoleonic era.     Several UCWBG members and their guests took a walking tour through several West Loop galleries including those of Kavi Gupta (a Booth graduate), Andrew Rafacz, and Tony Wight.  Tour participants learned about established and up-and-coming contemporary artists and gathered advice on collecting art while enjoying an afternoon of great company, thoughtful conversation, and a little wine and cheese.
